Student Life

Clubs

We believe that properly planned extra-curricular activities have great educational value in broadening outlook, deepening social relationships, providing practical experience in various fields, offering opportunity to pursue more intensively areas of particular talent and interest, providing a means outside the curriculum for students to gain the satisfaction of superior performance, fostering school spirit and morale, and adding to the pleasure of educational experience. Additionally, we endeavor to actively promote intercultural and international awareness through extra-curricular activities. We offer variety of extracurricular activities that vary from year to year for our students. We mainly schedule extra-curricular activities and clubs from 1:00 to 2:30 on Wednesdays or on Saturdays.

Please note: Club offerings are subject to change based on student interest and staff availability. A minimum number of participants is required for each club to be opened.

Additional information:

  • All clubs are paid extracurricular activities; fees cover materials, resources, and staff coordination.
  • Students enrolled in certain clubs may be invited to represent the school in local competitions, depending on the nature of the club and the student’s performance.
  • Participation in clubs helps students enhance their creativity, confidence, teamwork, and discipline while having fun in a supportive environment.

Events

School events are a fundamental part of our community culture. They reflect our commitment to nurture confident, expressive, and socially engaged learners. Events at OIST are not just moments of celebration—they are learning opportunities that foster creativity, teamwork, leadership, and school spirit.

Students are strongly encouraged to:

  • Participate in school-wide events as performers, presenters, organizers, or volunteers.
  • Propose new ideas for events in collaboration with teachers and administration.
  • Develop a sense of ownership and pride in their school community through active involvement.

Examples of annual events & celebrations at Oxford:

  • Spirit Weeks (themed dress-up days and fun challenges)

These events are part of the Oxford tradition and provide meaningful experiences that support both academic and personal development.

University fairs at OIST

We are committed to preparing students for their academic futures beyond secondary school. As part of our university and career readiness program, we proudly organize two major university fairs each academic year:

International university fair

This event brings together representatives from a diverse range of international universities across Europe and beyond. It provides students and families with the opportunity to:

  • Explore a variety of higher education programs and institutions
  • Speak directly with university representatives and admissions officers
  • Learn about admission requirements, application procedures, scholarships, and campus life
  • Gain valuable insights into studying abroad and international career prospects

The international fair is an essential platform for our students, especially those in Years 11 to 13, to make informed decisions about their higher education pathways.

National university fair

This event focuses on showcasing top universities and private higher education institutions within Tunisia. It is an excellent opportunity for students and their families to:

  • Connect with local university admissions teams
  • Learn about Tunisian academic programs, tuition, entrance requirements, and student life
  • Understand the value of pursuing quality education close to home
  • Explore options for bilingual or international programs within Tunisia

 

Both fairs are hosted on our school campus and are open to students, parents, and staff. These events are carefully planned to support students’ academic planning and to strengthen their awareness of the wide range of educational possibilities available to them.

Assemblies

Student assemblies are a valued tradition that foster community spirit, student voice, and character development.

Assemblies are often collaboratively prepared by students and their teachers, allowing students to:

  • Explore and present themes that are meaningful to them (e.g., kindness, leadership, mental health, cultural identity, global issues).
  • Perform short skits, speeches, or musical pieces.
  • Celebrate academic achievements, student of the month…
  • Develop public speaking, teamwork, and organizational skills in a supportive environment.

Assemblies play a key role in building confidence, communication, and a strong sense of community, while also reinforcing the values and mission of the school.

  • Assemblies and Themes

    Assemblies follow specified monthly themes inspired by the Attributes of Brilliance we aim to instill in students.

  • Preparation Process

    Students spend three weeks in clubs, activities, and workshops preparing for their performance or contribution to the assembly.

  • EYFS and Primary

    Every Wednesday from 10:45 to 11:30, homeroom teachers lead clubs where students prepare something related to the monthly theme.

  • Secondary

    An Events Committee organizes and supports students over three weeks, preparing them for their role in the monthly assembly (11:55–12:40).

  • Showcase Week

    In the fourth week, both Primary and Secondary showcase what they have prepared during their club time in the monthly assembly.

Weekly wellbeing sessions for Year 10 and Year 11

We recognize the unique academic and personal development needs of our students in Key Stage 4. To provide a balanced and holistic support system, Year 10 and Year 11 students participate in a dedicated weekly session of either personal well-being, or life skills development.

Each week, students attend one of the following sessions:

Personal fitness (PF) session

Physical and mental well-being go hand in hand. The PF session encourages students to engage in physical activity, team-building games, and movement exercises that help reduce stress, improve focus, and promote a healthy lifestyle. Activities may vary and are tailored to support overall student wellness.

Youth development session

Led by our school counselor, this session focuses on social-emotional learning, self- awareness, communication skills, goal-setting, and preparing students to face future academic and personal challenges. Discussions often address real-life topics that matter to teens, such as decision-making, emotional regulation, peer relationships, and digital responsibility.

To strengthen the bridge between school and home, one parent is invited to attend this last session, on a rotating basis. Their presence reinforces the shared responsibility in student development and creates a space for greater understanding of what students experience and learn during these support sessions.

Class delegates and student council

Starting from the upcoming academic year, each class will elect a Class Delegate. This student, chosen in collaboration with teachers and classmates, will represent their class in the Student Council.

The Student Council will:

 

  • Serve as a bridge between students and administration, voicing ideas and concerns.
  • Participate in planning, organizing, and assisting with school events and initiatives.
  • Help promote leadership, responsibility, and a sense of active citizenship among students.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure that student perspectives are considered in school life.

This initiative aims to empower students, build confidence, and foster a greater sense of

ownership and community at Oxford.

Field trips and educational events

School trips are an integral part of the Oxford experience. They are organized throughout the academic year and may be academic (linked to curriculum goals) or recreational (for fun and team building).

Trips are considered a key component of our extracurricular program, offering students valuable hands-on experiences beyond the classroom environment.

Trip organization & payment

  • All trips are paid by students, and the fee includes transportation and insurance.
  • Parents will receive a detailed letter in advance outlining the destination, educational objectives (if applicable), departure/return times, cost, and necessary materials or clothing.

Student conduct on trips

  • Students must follow the school’s Code of Conduct at all times during trips.
  • Misbehavior may result in disciplinary consequences, including but not limited to:
    • Removal from future school trips.
    • Suspension or further action depending on the severity of misconduct.
  • Students and assigned chaperones are responsible for strictly following the trip’s

guidelines and instructions given by organizers.

Uniform & Device policy

  • On all trips, students must wear their school uniform unless otherwise specified.
  • If students wish to take photos or videos for personal memories (during recreational trips only), they may bring their phones under the following conditions:
    • Phones must be handed to the administration before the school day begins.
    • Devices will only be returned at the time of departure on the bus.
    • Phones must be returned to the administration immediately upon return to school.
    • Filming or photographing inappropriate content, especially while wearing the school uniform, is strictly prohibited and will lead to disciplinary action, as students are representing the school.

Birthday parties

Birthday celebrations are left to the discretion of the Homeroom Teachers depending on how big the occasion and the requirements of the event- approval will be communicated by the homeroom teachers. Parents may provide a small “treat,” but celebrations must not disrupt the instructional program. Please contact the teacher in advance before sending or bringing any items to school.

We encourage healthier options rather than an overload of sweets. Some nutritious and fun alternatives include:

  • Fresh fruit skewers or sliced fruit cups
  • Mini muffins made with whole grains or fruit
  • Yogurt cups or tubes
  • Popcorn (lightly salted, not buttered)
  • Cheese cubes and whole-grain crackers
  • Fruit smoothies or 100% fruit juice boxes
  • Vegetable sticks with hummus
  • Homemade granola bars (low in sugar)

 

These options help promote healthy habits while still allowing children to celebrate joyfully. Please coordinate with the teacher in advance to ensure any treats are appropriate and allergy-safe.
